Kildare is the county we are asked into most often after Dublin, and the reason is straightforward: a very large share of its housing went up during the commuter belt expansion of the late nineteen nineties and two thousands. Those kitchens are now twenty to twenty five years old, which is exactly the age at which doors start sagging, carcasses swell and people stop patching and start replacing.
Which parts of Kildare do you cover?

What is different about Kildare housing?
A lot of it is estate housing from the nineteen nineties and two thousands, which brings a fairly consistent set of kitchen problems.
Houses of that period usually have a kitchen at the back, often opening to a dining area, with a standard run of units fitted when the estate was built. They tend to be reasonably square, which makes them straightforward to measure and design for.
The common frustrations are the same ones repeatedly: not enough worktop, wall units that make the room feel low, no proper utility so the washing machine sits in the kitchen, and storage that ran out years ago. A larder and a rethought layout fix most of that without moving a wall.
Do many Kildare kitchens come with an extension?
A good proportion do, because the standard estate layout is a natural candidate for opening the back of the house.

Since 27 July 2026 you can extend a house by up to 45 square metres without planning permission, up from the old 40, provided the other exempted development conditions are met.
